A methamphetamine summit is taking place in Charleston this week. Hundreds of concerned officials are addressing the many problems associated with meth.

A few Wood County officials were at the Summit. They say Wood County was one of the first counties in West Virginia to be overwhelmed with meth labs.

He says it started in 1998 and since then, around 300 meth labs have been uncovered in the area.

U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller was at the summit Monday and says the only way to really crack down on meth is with more money. He says local law agencies stand to lose thousands of dollars in federal funding. He says this will only cause the number of meth labs to grow.

Rockefeller says proposed legislation will also help crack down. Right now a pending bill is asking to make psuedoephedrine much more difficult to access. That is one of the commonly used drugs in making meth.
