Sophomore right-hander notched first career win against West Virginia last week

Sophomore hurler Pat Gliha (Euclid, Ohio/Villa Angela-St. Joseph HS) was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Pitcher of the Week, the league offense announced Monday.

Gliha picked up his first career win by tossing 7.1 innings in the Zips' 11-2 win at West Virginia on April 20. The right-hander fanned a career-high five batters and walked three while scattering five hits. He surrendered two earned runs in the outing, giving up single runs in the first and sixth innings.

Gliha is the sixth UA player to win a divisional pitcher or player of the week honor this season. Ross Liersemann (Mansfield, Ohio/Lexington HS) was named pitcher of the week on April 18, Kurt Davidson (North Canton, Ohio/North Canton) was tabbed player of the week on March 8, Bill McKinney (Loveland, Ohio/Kings HS) was named pitcher of the week on Feb. 28 and player of the week on April 5, and Brian Kimutis (Washington, Pa./Trinity) was honored as the player of the week on March 14.

Akron returns to action Tuesday when Duquesne visits Lee Jackson Field for a 3 p.m. EDT non-conference contest.
